I
The primary places I have written on this are:
- [A]Analysis of Telling, Believing and Truth [2013]
Within My Philosophy [A]
- And [B] common facts [2017]
Within Darland's Philosophy [B]
These are the correspondences between my terms and material from Appendix C [C]. I'm changing particular examples from mine to match those used by Russell.
- (from [C] p. 404) in [A] in m_symbol_0r(S1, t, socrates_m, socrates) socrates_m is a thought of socrates -- m_symbol_0r being the meaning relation (we only need its structure) - to being Socrates. (For a person S1 at time t)
- or in {B] in internal_symbol(tom, now, 0, tom_socrates_int, socrates). tom_socrates_int is tom's internal symbol of socrates. internal_symbol being the meaning relation - which we again only need the structure of.
- in [A] in m_symbol_1r(S1, t, being_greek_m, being_greek) being_greek_m is thought of being_greek.
- in [B] internal_relation_symbol(tom, now, 1, 2, tom_being_greek_int, being_greek). is the same
- What R calls the relation of predication in our thoughts for me is:
- in [A] belief_r(S1, t, being_greek_m, socrates_m)
- and in [B] believes_internal(tom, now, pos_pos, 0, 2, tom_being_greek_int, tom_socrates_int).
- Russell also talks of propositions as facts - geographical or acoustic. (p. 402).
- These I call external symbols:.
- in [A] p_symbol_0r(S1, t, socrates_m, socrates_p)
- and p_symbol_1r(S1, t, being_greek_m, being_greek_p)
- in [B] external_symbol(tom, now, 2, socrates_ext, tom_socrates_int) - spoken or written word for thought
- external_relation_symbol(tom, now, 3, 2, being_greek_ext, tom_being_greek_int) - ditto.
- Generally, different people will have different internal symbols for the same objects, but will in the same language have the same external symbols.
- These are the main "primitive relations" of my philosophy. - My philosophy derives consequences of the existence of these relations.
- I define many other relations in their terms - and consequences about transparency and opacity.
